Dr. Fırat Akova, Power for Democracies bünyesinde kıdemli araştırmacıdır. Koç Üniversitesi Felsefe Bölümü’nde öğretim görevlisi olarak çalışmıştır. Oxford Üniversitesi’ne bağlı Global Priorities Institute tarafından açılan bir araştırma programında yer almış ve Oxford Üniversitesi’yle yakından çalışan Forethought Foundation for Global Priorities Research tarafından Global Priorities Fellow olarak seçilmiştir. Doktorasını, araştırma görevlisi olarak da çalıştığı Warwick Üniversitesi Felsefe Bölümü’nde efektif altruizm üstüne tamamlamıştır. Doktora sonrası araştırma ve sivil toplum projeleriyle fonlar kazanmıştır.
Kurucusu olduğu disiplinlerarası topluluk Poedat ile akademik etkinlikler düzenlemektedir. Efektif Altruizm Türkiye’yi kurmuş ve direktörlüğünü yapmıştır.
Yüksek lisansını İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi Felsefe ve Toplumsal Düşünce Programı’nda tamamlamıştır. Lisansını McGill Üniversitesi’nde felsefe ve sosyoloji çift ana dalı ve dünya dinleri yan dalı ile bitirmiştir. Üniversite öncesinde katıldığı Türkiye Felsefe Olimpiyatı’nda altın madalya kazanmış ve Uluslararası Felsefe Olimpiyatı’nda Türkiye’yi temsil ederek Harvard Üniversitesi tarafından onur ödülüne layık görülmüştür.
About
Dr. Fırat Akova is a Senior Research Fellow at Power for Democracies. He worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at Koç University. He participated in a research programme organized by the Global Priorities Institute at the University of Oxford and was selected as a Global Priorities Fellow by the Forethought Foundation for Global Priorities Research, which collaborates closely with the University of Oxford. He completed his PhD on effective altruism in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Warwick, where he also worked as a Senior Graduate Teaching Assistant. He won grant competitions for postdoctoral research and civil society projects.
He founded and served as the director of Effective Altruism Turkey. Through Poedat, the interdisciplinary community he founded, he organizes academic events.
He earned his master’s degree in the Philosophy and Social Thought programme at Istanbul Bilgi University. He completed his undergraduate studies at McGill University with a double major in philosophy and sociology and a minor in world Religions. Prior to his university years, he won a Gold Medal in the the Philosophy Olympiad of Turkey and represented Turkey in the International Philosophy Olympiad, where he was awarded an Honorary Mention by Harvard University.
